A Song That Took Me Home

Honolulu, Hawaii
My mom and I went to Waikiki Yacht Club this morning. As usual, we prepared our own simple breakfast and enjoyed our coffee together before I started my morning live stream.

There is a piano at the club. And whenever we come here, I always encourage my mom to play a few songs. She was a music teacher in China, and she still enjoys sitting at the piano whenever she has the chance.
Since I started my live streaming, I’ve met so many wonderful people from around the world. Many of them already know my mom because they often see her during my live stream.
This morning, I turned the camera toward my mom while she was playing the piano.
One viewer told me that she can sing. I said I can sing too. And she asked if I had any videos of my singing. I told her I didn’t.
Then she asked me to sing on my live stream. So I did.
I sang a few lines of a song. And when I finished, several people complimented my singing.
I told them both of my parents were music teachers. When I was little, my father often played music instruments while my sister and I sang together. Sometimes we even turned it into a friendly competition to see who could sing better.
I also learned singing and dancing when I was young.
Life wasn’t easy in those days, but my childhood was filled with music, laughter, and happiness.
Looking back, I realize how grateful I am for the way my parents raised us.
Today, one simple question during a live stream unexpectedly brought all those memories back.
Looking back now, I realize those moments shaped far more than my love of singing — they shaped the way I connect with people today.
Amazing how a few lines of a song can carry you back home.
